GCAA launches investigation into alleged mistreatment of KLM passengers

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced an investigation into reports of alleged mistreatment of passengers on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Accra.

In a press release issued on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the Authority said it had taken notice of videos circulating on social media showing stranded passengers expressing frustration over how they were allegedly treated by the airline in Amsterdam.

According to the GCAA, the incident is linked to KLM Flight KL059, which was scheduled to arrive in Accra from Amsterdam on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

The videos have generated public concern, with affected passengers reportedly complaining about delays and their treatment during the disruption.

The aviation regulator stated that it considers passenger safety, security, and consumer protection as key priorities. As a result, it has begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the reported delay on the tarmac and the allegations made by some passengers.

“The GCAA has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported tarmac delay and the alleged mistreatment of some passengers,” the statement noted.
The Authority said it would engage all relevant stakeholders, including the airline and other parties involved, to establish the facts of the incident.

It also assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be communicated when appropriate and in line with regulatory procedures.

The GCAA further reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, security, and customer service within Ghana’s aviation sector.

The development follows growing concerns on social media after several passengers shared videos and accounts of their experiences while travelling on the KLM flight from Amsterdam to Accra.

The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances that led to the reported disruption and whether any passenger rights or aviation regulations were breached.
