Senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Bafoh has filed a bail application at the High Court in Accra, challenging her continued detention after she was remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court over an alleged role in the publication and circulation of false news on social media.
Her lawyers filed the application on September 18, 2026, seeking bail pending trial. The motion is expected to be heard on Wednesday, September 23, at the High Court’s Criminal Division.
Ms Bafoh was arrested following investigations into the activities of UK-based TikToker Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”.
Police allege that Ms Bafoh acted as a liaison for Ms Kodua and assisted in distributing videos produced by her through various social media platforms.
According to the police, Ms Bafoh also allegedly shared funds received from Ms Kodua with other people involved in redistributing the videos.
Investigators further say they uncovered financial transactions between the two women and are investigating other individuals allegedly involved in the network.
Ms Bafoh was put before the Adentan Circuit Court on a charge of abetment of crime, to wit publication of false news, contrary to Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution opposed her release, arguing that the matter involved national security concerns and that investigations were still ongoing.
The court subsequently denied her bail and remanded her into police custody for two weeks. She is scheduled to reappear before the Circuit Court on September 30.
The police have also declared Ms Kodua wanted over allegations of publishing and circulating false news and content capable of inciting violence.
Ms Bafoh’s lawyers are now asking the High Court to grant her bail pending trial.
