The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court has placed a seven-year prison sentence on Nicholas Adjarlolo, a 23-year-old commercial tricycle (Pragia) operator, for the defilement of a 13-year-old Junior High School student in Sawer, a suburb of Somanya.
The court, under the leadership of Mr. Kwasi Appiatse Abaidoo, found Adjarlolo guilty of defiling a girl under the age of 16, in violation of Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
In presenting the case, ASP Nana Akomeah, the Somanya District Police Commander, stated that the complainant, a 41-year-old trader and the victim’s mother, resides in Sawer.
He reported that on July 24, the complainant informed the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service that her daughter had left home around 10:00 p.m. on July 23 and had not returned.
ASP Akomeah indicated that the complainant later learned that the accused had taken the victim to his residence in Sawer.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, along with police officers, went to the accused’s home, where they discovered him in his room with the victim.
Both individuals were taken to the police station to aid in the investigation.
ASP Akomeah mentioned that the victim was provided with a police medical report form, and the medical examination confirmed that she had engaged in sexual intercourse.
During the investigation, the accused confessed to having sexual intercourse with the victim, asserting that she was his girlfriend.
He informed investigators that they had been in a relationship for approximately two months and acknowledged having sexual intercourse with her on two separate occasions.
Adjarlolo was subsequently charged with defilement, tried in court, found guilty, and sentenced to seven years in prison.
