A loading boy at Ayi Mensah in the Greater Accra Region, Jonathan Quaicoe, has received commendation for his integrity after returning a bag that contained €3,000 and GH¢1,000, which was reportedly left behind in a commercial vehicle travelling from Accra to Koforidua.
While on duty, Quaicoe discovered the bag and promptly handed it over to the police, facilitating the reunion of the missing money and other valuables with their rightful owner.
According to the police, the owner, a woman who had taken a commercial Toyota Hiace from Ghana Flag in Accra to Koforidua, realized upon arriving at her destination that the bag containing the money was absent.
She then reported the incident at the Koforidua Central Police Station, which led the New Juaben South Police Command to send an investigative team to Accra to locate the missing property.
The team, consisting of police officers and drivers, conducted inquiries and collected information that directed them to Quaicoe, who was found in possession of the bag.
He subsequently returned the bag along with its contents to the police, resulting in the recovery of the €3,000, GH¢1,000, and the other items it held.
Impressed by his honesty, the owner reportedly rewarded Quaicoe, and the police also presented him with a brand-new mobile phone in recognition of his exemplary conduct.
During a ceremony held to honour him, the New Juaben South Municipal Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustine Asante Kusi, commended Quaicoe for opting to return the valuables rather than keeping them.
ASP Asante Kusi encouraged the public to emulate his example by turning over lost property to the police, enabling efforts to identify and locate the rightful owners.
He emphasised that acts of honesty and integrity are vital for fostering public trust and contributing to a safer society.
