The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to final-year Senior High School (SHS) students nationwide as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) comes to an end today, Friday, June 19, 2026.
They cautioned against any acts of violence or misconduct during and after the examinations.
This warning follows recent occurrences of student unrest in various areas of the Upper East Region, which resulted in the arrest of six students.
At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were apprehended in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s residence, while at Bawku Senior High School, four additional students were detained for rioting, assaulting school officials, and damaging both school and private property.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 18, the Police Service encouraged candidates to maintain discipline, adhere to the law, and celebrate responsibly upon completing their examinations.
The Service emphasised that actions such as violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other illegal behaviours carry severe criminal repercussions, warning that such actions could jeopardize students’ futures and negate years of academic effort.
It also cautioned that it would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in criminal activities.
“The police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct,” the statement said.
Additionally, the police urged students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to collaborate in fostering discipline, peace, and order within schools and their surrounding communities.
