A bail application has been filed at the court for the release of the detained Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, according to the Majority Chief Whip and MP for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor.
Dafeamekpor confirmed the development in an interview, stating that legal steps had already been taken to secure the MP’s release while investigations continue into the matter.
“A bail application has been filed, and we are following up to ensure due process is respected,” he said.
He further urged calm and cautioned against speculation surrounding the circumstances of the MP’s detention, insisting that the legal process must be allowed to take its course.
“We should allow the legal process to work. At this stage, what has been done is that a bail application has been filed, and we are awaiting the court’s consideration,” he added.
Dafeamekpor also stressed that the rights of the MP must be protected like any other citizen under the law, regardless of political status.
“Every citizen, including a Member of Parliament, is entitled to due process and fair treatment under the law,” he stated.
Although details surrounding the detention remain unclear, the development has generated political interest given the MP’s position in Parliament.
The case is expected to be revisited by the court in the coming days as legal representatives pursue a ruling on the bail application.
Further updates are expected as proceedings continue.
