The Chief of Asesewa, Nene Ofei Tagbadza, has asked President John Dramani Mahama to fix the poor roads and water problems in the Upper Manya District.
He said this is important for the success of the government’s 24-hour economy plan.
He made this appeal during a sod-cutting ceremony for a new 24-hour market project on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The chief described the project as very important for bringing back economic growth and pride to the area.
“This is not just a project, it is a restoration of dignity and a restoration of economic pride to Asesewa,” he said.
Even though he welcomed the project, Nene Tagbadza said the bad road network in the district is a major problem that could slow down development, especially for farming.
“Notable among the challenges we have here are our roads. The road network in Upper Manya District is something you have to take a look at so that we can make meaningful use of the 24-hour economy market when completed,” he said.
He explained that many communities in the district depend on farming, so better roads will help farmers move their goods easily to the market.
“The district can boast of a number of farming communities. So we are confident that when this market is completed, commodities and the essentials needed to transform this community will be easier for us if our roads are accessible,” he added.
The chief also spoke about serious water problems in the area. He said it is unfair that communities that supply water do not have access to it themselves.
“Again, the water that is pumped to Koforidua gets its source from some of the communities in Upper Manya. But these communities do not have a single water pipe,” he said.
“Meanwhile, this is the source of the water that feeds the regional capital. Mr President, we have a water challenge, which is a critical situation we face. We plead that your office will take a look at it for us,” he added.
The 24-hour market project is part of the government’s bigger plan to grow local businesses, support farming, and create more jobs across the country.
