NIA begins mop-up registration for children in Volta and Oti regions

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has initiated a one-month mop-up registration campaign for Ghanaian children aged six to 14 years in selected districts throughout the Volta and Oti regions.

As stated by the Authority, this initiative commenced on Thursday, June 4, and will continue until July 3, 2026, following the successful conclusion of the primary registration exercise in these two regions.

The NIA indicated that this initiative aims to offer an opportunity for eligible children who were unable to register during the initial phase to secure their national identification records.

In a statement, the Authority expressed appreciation to parents, guardians, traditional leaders, the Ghana Education Service, the National Health Insurance Authority, the media, and other stakeholders for their assistance during the previous registration exercise.

The mop-up registration is being carried out in 13 districts within the Volta Region and nine districts in the Oti Region, with registration occurring at designated schools and centres from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The NIA stressed that this exercise is exclusively for Ghanaian children and warned against the submission of false information during registration.

It cautioned that any individual who knowingly aids in the registration of a non-Ghanaian would be committing an offence and may face legal action.

The Authority reaffirmed its dedication to upholding a secure, reliable, and inclusive National Identity Register that encompasses every eligible Ghanaian.
