The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has given the management of the Metro Mass Transit terminal at Kaneshie First Light 24 hours to clean up the facility, starting today, September 9, or face legal action.
The directive was issued on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when the Mayor made an unplanned stop at the terminal while returning from a working visit to the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project site in front of Accra Academy.
The Mayor expressed concern about the poor sanitary conditions around the transport terminal and warned that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would no longer tolerate the accumulation of rubbish at public transport facilities.
According to him, transport terminals, markets, shops and other public spaces must support the Assembly’s efforts to improve sanitation in the capital.
He stressed that managers of public facilities have a responsibility to ensure that their surroundings are kept clean at all times.
Mr Allotey therefore directed the authorities of the Kaneshie Metro Mass terminal to immediately clean the area and improve its sanitary conditions.
He warned that failure to comply with the directive within the 24-hour deadline would result in the Assembly taking legal action against the managers of the facility.
The Mayor also turned his attention to traders operating around the terminal and cautioned shop owners against displaying or selling goods on pavements.
He said the practice obstructs the free movement of pedestrians and contributes to congestion and disorder along major roads.
