The National Communications Authority (NCA) has authorized three companies to advance to the subsequent phase of Ghana’s 5G spectrum licensing process, while one applicant has been disqualified.
The approved applicants include Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Telecel Ghana), and Goal Telecommunications Ltd.
The NCA indicated that it received four applications by the 5 p.m. deadline on August 27, 2026, and evaluated them through an eligibility review and technical qualification assessment.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 9, the regulator noted that Infrava Ltd was the sole applicant that did not meet the qualifications.
“All Applicants have been duly informed of the Authority’s determination in respect of their applications, with reasons provided where applicable,” the NCA stated.
The qualified companies will now move on to Stage 3 of the selection process for spectrum licenses in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz, and 3GHz bands.
The NCA mentioned that the Envelope B submission from the disqualified applicant will not be opened.
The qualified applicants will be separately notified regarding the date, time, and location for the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers.
This recent development signifies the conclusion of the qualification stage of the NCA’s Request for Applications for the spectrum licenses.
The licensing process is anticipated to determine which of the qualified applicants will obtain spectrum in the specified bands for the deployment and enhancement of advanced mobile communications services in Ghana.
