Motorists and other fuel users may have to pay slightly more at filling stations from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as petroleum prices are projected to increase in the next pricing window.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC) has forecast marginal increases in the prices of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), citing changes in international petroleum product prices.
The projection comes despite a recent strengthening of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar and a slight decline in global crude oil prices.
According to COPEC’s assessment, the price of crude oil fell from about US$90.41 per barrel to US$89.30 during the current pricing period.
At the same time, the Ghana cedi appreciated against the dollar. The average interbank exchange rate improved from GH¢11.800 to the US dollar at the beginning of the pricing window to about GH¢11.5166 by its close, representing an appreciation of approximately 2.39%.
However, COPEC explained that the movement in the Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products is expected to outweigh the positive effect of the stronger cedi and lower crude oil prices.
For petrol, the consumer group projects an average pump price of about GH¢16.21 per litre from September 1. This would represent an increase of roughly five per cent from the current average price of GH¢15.43 per litre.
Diesel is also expected to record an increase. COPEC estimates that the product could sell at an average of GH¢17.61 per litre, up from the current mean price of GH¢17.17. The projected increase represents approximately 2.58%.
LPG users could also see a marginal rise in prices during the next pricing window. COPEC has projected an average price of GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.
