Notorious suspect killed in operation at Binduri, AK-47, ammunition retrieved

A joint security operation in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region has led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition following a series of recent shooting incidents in the area.

The intelligence-led operation was conducted by the Upper East Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Military to identify and arrest persons linked to firearm-related offences in the district.

One of the suspects, 32-year-old Isaka Sabani, alias “Culture”, sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and later died.

Police said an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition was retrieved from him.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Sabani was wanted in connection with an attempted murder and unlawful discharge of firearms case reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.

He was also suspected of involvement in shooting incidents recorded at Agenda 111, Aniisi and Gumyoko in the Binduri District on August 29, 30 and 31, respectively.

The Upper East Regional Police Command said it would continue working with the Military and other security agencies to identify and apprehend other persons suspected to be involved in the incidents.

The Command also assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace, security, and law and order in the region.
