NLA dismisses salary reduction claims, threatens legal action

The management of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has denied reports suggesting that its Director-General, Alhaji Mohammed Abdul-Salam, has cut staff salaries or increased his own pay.

In a press statement issued on Friday, April 10, the Authority described the allegations as completely false and harmful to the Director-General’s reputation.

According to the statement, “The information circulating is inaccurate, misleading, and has been distorted to damage the reputation of the Director-General”.

Responding directly to claims that staff salaries had been reduced, management firmly denied any such move.

They stressed that, “At no point since his assumption of office has the Director-General reduced staff salaries by 13% or any other percentage.”

Instead, the Authority explained that the situation has been misunderstood. What some are calling a salary cut is actually the opposite.

As they clarified, “what is being claimed as a reduction is, in fact, an approved increase achieved through negotiation in a transparent, collaborative process verifiable by all parties involved”.

The statement also addressed rumours that the Director-General had significantly increased his own salary.

“The claim that the Director-General has increased his salary from GHS 38,000 to GHS 70,000 is entirely false,” parts of the statement read.

They went on to explain that any changes to salaries are subject to proper procedures and approvals, and no such increase has taken effect yet.

The Authority also rejected figures circulating publicly on the issue of rent allowance.

Beyond denying the claims, the NLA signalled that it is prepared to take legal steps.

The statement further revealed that the Director-General has instructed his lawyers to take legal action against the media houses peddling these falsehoods.
