Strengthen accountability mechanisms – Effia MP urges EKMA

Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah, has called on the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) to manage public funds with honesty, transparency and accountability to ensure residents receive value for money.

He said the Assembly must use public resources wisely and responsibly to support the development of the municipality and improve the lives of its people.

Mr Boamah made the appeal during the Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly held in Effia.

The meeting gave Assembly Members the opportunity to discuss the revised 2026 Annual Action Plan, the revised 2026 Composite Budget and other important issues affecting the development of the municipality.

According to the MP, every resource available to the Assembly belongs to the people. For that reason, he said every cedi spent should bring clear and measurable benefits to residents.

After reviewing the Assembly’s Composite Budget up to the end of May this year, Mr Boamah said he found that spending in some areas had gone beyond the approved budget. He questioned how those excess expenditures were approved.

“The value of work done, if you juxtapose it to the resources that have been expended, for example under sanitation in excess of GHC2.8 million, needs to be looked at again in terms of efficiency,” he said.

He urged the Assembly to strengthen its financial oversight and accountability systems to ensure that all development projects deliver value for money.

“Transparency builds trust, and trust is essential for effective local governance,” he stated.

Mr Boamah also reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Assembly, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to speed up development in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.

“Let us continue to unite as partners in development and build a municipality that future generations will be proud of,” Mr Boamah added.
