A young man identified as Sammy, popularly known as Tompoo, has died following a tragic motorbike accident at Abenaso in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.
The accident reportedly occurred when Sammy was riding through the area and hit a slippery pothole on the road. The impact is said to have caused his motorbike to skid, making him lose control before crashing.
The victim sustained critical injuries in the accident. Good Samaritans and residents who rushed to the scene quickly conveyed him to the New Abirem Government Hospital for emergency treatment. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The incident has reignited concerns over the deteriorating state of roads in the area, with residents blaming the accident on the numerous potholes that have become hazardous to motorists.
Some residents are calling on the government and road authorities to urgently rehabilitate damaged sections of the road to prevent further loss of lives.
“The potholes on this road have become death traps. We appeal to the authorities to fix them before more lives are lost,” some residents reportedly said.
Meanwhile, the exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear, with investigations expected to establish the full cause of the fatal accident.
