KNUST advises staff, students to avoid travel to South Africa over xenophobic violence

The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has advised students, staff and members of its community to avoid non-essential travel to South Africa following recent reports of xenophobic violence in parts of the country.

In a notice issued by the university’s International Programmes Office, KNUST said the advisory was issued as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of members of its community, particularly those involved in academic exchanges, conferences and other international engagements in South Africa.

The university urged students and staff currently in South Africa to remain vigilant, avoid areas experiencing unrest and closely follow updates and directives issued by local authorities and the Ghana High Commission.
