Aston Villa confirms Emiliano Martínez will stay next season

Aston Villa have ended speculation surrounding the future of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, with club director Damian Vidagany confirming that the Argentina international will remain at Villa Park for the 2026/27 season.

Martínez has been linked with a move away from the Premier League in recent weeks, with several top European and Saudi Arabian clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

However, Villa have made it clear that they have no intention of selling one of their most influential players this summer.

Speaking about the goalkeeper’s future, Vidagany dismissed the transfer rumours.

“Martínez will stay with us. We have no intention of letting him leave this summer,” he said.

“The team needs his dedication and extensive experience. He is a very important element in our project for next season.”

The 33-year-old has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers since joining Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020.

He has played a crucial role in the club’s rise under manager Unai Emery, helping Villa compete consistently in European competitions while remaining one of the Premier League’s strongest defensive sides.

Martínez has also enjoyed remarkable success with Argentina.

He was instrumental in the country’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, producing several decisive saves during the knockout stages and the final against France.

He has also won two Copa América titles and the Finalissima with the national team, cementing his status as one of Argentina’s modern greats.

Known for his leadership, commanding presence and penalty-saving ability, Martínez remains a key figure both on and off the pitch at Aston Villa.

Villa’s firm stance is likely to discourage potential suitors, with the club determined to keep the World Cup-winning goalkeeper as part of its long-term plans.
