The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has denied reports that he is preparing to challenge Klottey Korle Member of Parliament, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, in the 2028 parliamentary election.
Mr Neequaye Kotey, popularly known as “Logas”, said he has no current plans to contest the constituency seat in 2028, although he acknowledged that he has the right to do so if he changes his mind.
He said speculation about a possible challenge should not be a concern to the incumbent MP, stressing that he has not made any decision to enter the race.
“For now, I have not made up my mind, so Dr Zanetor should relax. I am not going to contest her,” he said.
The DVLA boss explained that his involvement in politics within the Klottey Korle Constituency dates back many years.
According to him, he first became involved with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a teenager and later served in several positions at the branch and constituency levels.
He said he was a branch secretary at the age of 17, although he was not allowed to register at the time. He later served as a polling agent in 2004 before becoming a branch chairman, deputy constituency communications officer and eventually constituency communications officer.
He currently serves as the constituency’s Vice Chairman.
Mr Neequaye Kotey also highlighted his strong connection to the constituency, particularly Osu, where he said he was born and raised.
He maintained that he has never hidden his political ambitions and would openly declare his intention if he decided to seek the parliamentary seat.
Although he has ruled out a 2028 bid, the DVLA CEO did not completely close the door on a future parliamentary contest, saying his position could change in subsequent elections.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has represented Klottey Korle in Parliament since 2017. Mr Neequaye Kotey was appointed DVLA CEO in January 2025.
