The High Court has adjourned proceedings in the case involving former National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, to Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The adjournment was granted after lawyers for the accused persons requested more time, citing health-related reasons for their absence from court.
Justice Francis Achibonga was informed that lawyers Godfred Yeboah Dame, who represents Hanan Abdul-Wahab, and Augustine Obour, counsel for Faiza Seidu, were unable to appear in court.
The two lawyers had submitted letters asking the court to postpone the proceedings because of health concerns. However, the requests came under scrutiny from the prosecution.
Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai raised concerns about the supporting documents presented by the defence lawyers. He noted that the letter submitted by Godfred Dame did not have a medical report attached to confirm the health condition cited as the reason for his absence.
He also questioned the document submitted on behalf of Mr Obour. According to the Deputy Attorney General, the doctor who signed the document had not clearly identified himself as a medical doctor.
The prosecution therefore urged the court to ensure that the requests for an adjournment were properly supported with credible medical evidence.
Mr Abdul-Wahab subsequently presented additional documents relating to the medical report supporting his lawyer’s request. However, Justice Achibonga decided to give the defence one more day to address the concerns raised by the prosecution.
The court has consequently fixed Wednesday, August 26, for the matter to continue and for the requests for an adjournment to be considered.
The case forms part of ongoing legal proceedings involving the former NAFCO boss and other accused persons. NAFCO, a state-owned company, plays a key role in Ghana’s food security system, including the procurement and storage of food commodities for use during periods of shortage.
The latest development means proceedings will depend on whether the defence lawyers are able to provide the necessary medical documentation to satisfy the court.
