An Accra High Court has granted an application by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to freeze five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles.
The court order is part of EOCO’s investigation into the alleged misappropriation of about GH¢55 million at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
Investigators are examining allegations of fraud, theft and procurement irregularities during Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary.
The asset freeze follows Mr Aboagye’s arrest at the Kotoka International Airport on July 12 after he returned to Ghana. He was questioned by EOCO and later released.
EOCO said the arrest came after investigators uncovered new evidence in the case. Although Mr Aboagye had previously honoured invitations to assist with the investigation, the agency placed him on a stop list to prevent him from travelling while the probe continues.
According to EOCO, freezing the bank accounts and properties is intended to preserve the assets as investigations continue.
