The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has safely relocated a swarm of bees from Vakpo Secondary Technical School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region after a student and a teacher were attacked and stung.
The two victims received medical treatment following the incident, which prompted the school to seek the intervention of the Fire Service.
According to the GNFS, personnel from the Anfoega Fire Station were dispatched to the school after receiving reports of the bee attack.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the swarm had been nesting in the ceiling of the girls’ dormitory for several years but became aggressive after weeding activities were carried out around the area.
Firefighters successfully evacuated and relocated the bees, restoring safety to the affected section of the school and preventing further attacks.
The operation also allowed academic and other activities on campus to continue without posing additional risks to students and staff.
The GNFS has advised school authorities and the general public to promptly report bee infestations for professional assistance instead of attempting to remove the insects themselves.
It also urged institutions to restrict access to areas where bee swarms are detected and avoid disturbing them, stressing that early reporting and proper handling are essential to preventing similar incidents.
