Chairman Wontumi vows to secure Bawumia’s presidency

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has declared his strong commitment to ensuring that the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, becomes Ghana’s next president in the 2028 general elections.

He made the bold statement at the end of a massive NPP unity walk held in Tarkwa-Nsuaem on Saturday, an event that brought together hundreds of party supporters and executives in the Western Region’s mining town.

The walk, organised by the NPP in Tarkwa-Nsuaem on June 20, 2026, was held under the theme “United we walk, stronger we build.” It was aimed at strengthening party unity, deepening grassroots mobilisation, and reinforcing the NPP’s resolve ahead of the 2028 elections.

Chairman Wontumi joined the procession alongside former Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, constituency executives, polling station officers, and numerous party faithful. Residents also turned out in large numbers, filling the streets with party colours and chants as the march moved from Teberebie Junction to the NPP constituency office near the TNA Stadium.

His presence added energy to the event, which was widely seen as a demonstration of unity and grassroots support within the party.

Addressing supporters at the party office after the walk, Chairman Wontumi expressed concern about the current economic conditions in the country, saying Ghanaians were facing difficult times.

He then reaffirmed his political commitment, stating: “I will not rest until Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next president of Ghana come 2028.”

The event also featured remarks from the host and former MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, who urged party members to rally behind Chairman Wontumi in his bid for the NPP National Chairman position.

According to him, strong internal unity and support for the party’s leadership structure would be key to helping the NPP secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

The unity walk is part of a series of constituency-level engagements being organised by the NPP to strengthen cohesion among members and energise its base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
