The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has uncovered alleged tax compliance breaches involving the operator of China Mall, leading to the partial sealing of parts of the company’s warehouse as authorities intensify efforts to enforce tax obligations among businesses operating in the country.
The action follows a compliance monitoring exercise conducted by the GRA, which identified areas of concern relating to the company’s tax records and obligations.
The Authority said the intervention forms part of its mandate to ensure that businesses accurately declare their operations and fulfil their statutory tax responsibilities.
According to the GRA, the partial sealing of the warehouse was not a closure of the entire business but a targeted enforcement measure to secure compliance while further assessments and engagements continue.
The Authority explained that such actions are taken when businesses fail to meet specific requirements under Ghana’s tax laws, adding that the exercise was aimed at protecting state revenue and ensuring fairness among compliant taxpayers.
The GRA has urged businesses to maintain accurate records, submit timely tax returns and cooperate with compliance officers during inspections to avoid enforcement actions.
Meanwhile, the operator of China Mall is expected to engage with the GRA to address the identified concerns and resolve outstanding compliance issues in accordance with the law.
