Ghana Jollof case: Salomey Baffoe deserves apology – Okoe Boye

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has called on the authorities involved in the arrest and detention of Techiman-based nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe to apologise to her.

He said the way she was treated raises concerns about the protection of individual rights and freedoms.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Dr. Okoe Boye suggested that some officials may have been more interested in showing their authority than dealing with a genuine security threat.

“I am of the firm belief that this nurse from Techiman who was taken through this ordeal, some people were only trying to show her where power lies. When they granted her bail, do you know when they are hearing the case again? February 2027. We have been told something, that this is a funny case. If someone is a threat to the state, how do you let her walk around between now and February 2027?

“There is one thing we must fight for, whether we are in opposition or in government and it is the liberty of individuals. Someone who is a threat to Ghana, who had to be refused bail by the High Court of Ghana, is asked to walk around Ghana till next year February. I want those involved to come and apologise to her.”

Baffoe was granted bail of GH¢100,000 by the Adenta Circuit Court on October 5 after the prosecution did not oppose her bail application. As part of her bail conditions, she is required to report to the police every two weeks. The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2027.

Before this, the High Court had denied her bail over concerns that her release could affect ongoing investigations involving cyber-related evidence.

Baffoe is accused of abetting the publication of false news in connection with content linked to the TikTok account known as Ghana Jollof.
