GES releases 2026/27 academic calendar

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 school year for basic schools across the country.

According to the calendar released by GES, the academic year will be structured into three terms, outlining reopening dates, vacations, mid-term breaks, and examination periods for pupils and teachers nationwide.

The first term is expected to begin in September 2026, while the second term will reopen on January 5, 2027, and end on March 25, 2027.

Vacation for the second term is scheduled from March 26 to April 19, 2027, before schools resume for the third term on April 20, 2027. The academic year is expected to officially end on July 22, 2027.

GES further reminded all schools and stakeholders to strictly observe public holidays and the approved academic schedule to ensure a smooth and effective academic year.

The release of the calendar comes as the 2026 BECE is currently ongoing across the country, with authorities intensifying efforts to clamp down on examination malpractice after several candidates and invigilators were arrested in separate cheating incidents during the exams.

Education stakeholders are expected to study the new calendar closely as schools begin preparations for the next academic year. The early release is also expected to help parents, teachers, and students plan effectively ahead of the 2026/2027 academic cycle.
