The Ghana Education Service (GES) has organised a cultural festival in the Tano North District aimed at promoting Ghanaian values, cultural identity, and unity among basic school pupils.
The event brought together pupils from various schools across the district to showcase traditional music, dance, local cuisine, and indigenous attire, highlighting the richness of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
Officials from the GES said the initiative is part of efforts to integrate cultural education into basic school learning and instil discipline, respect, and national pride among learners.
Speaking at the event, education officials noted that cultural festivals play a key role in helping pupils appreciate their roots while fostering tolerance and mutual respect among different ethnic groups.
“Our culture is a vital part of our identity, and we must pass these values on to the younger generation through such educational activities.”
Teachers and school heads encouraged pupils to actively participate in cultural activities, stressing that education goes beyond classroom learning to include moral and social development.
The festival featured performances of traditional drumming and dancing, storytelling, poetry recitals, and displays of locally made crafts and artifacts.
Parents and community members who attended the event commended the GES for promoting cultural awareness, describing the initiative as a positive step towards preserving Ghana’s heritage.
“This programme helps our children understand who they are and where they come from. It is very important for national development.”
Organisers said the programme will be expanded to other districts in the region as part of broader efforts to strengthen cultural education in schools nationwide.
The GES reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing well-rounded learners who are academically competent and culturally grounded.
“We want to raise children who are not only knowledgeable but also proud of their culture and respectful of others.”
The festival ended with awards presented to participating schools for outstanding performances in various cultural categories, reinforcing the importance of excellence in both academics and cultural expression.
