The University Hospital at the University of Ghana has suspended some of its services because of the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, the hospital said its General Outpatient Department (OPD), specialist clinics and pharmacy counselling services would not be available from Thursday, August 13, until further notice.
The hospital explained that the decision was necessary because the GAUA strike has affected administrative work at public universities.
Despite the suspension, the hospital said its Emergency Department is still operating. Patients who need urgent medical attention will continue to receive care.
The GAUA strike is mainly over concerns about the implementation of the association’s conditions of service and other welfare issues affecting university administrators.
The association has been calling on the relevant authorities to address these concerns, which has led to the ongoing industrial action.
The strike has affected the operations of several public universities, with some services disrupted because of the absence of key administrative staff.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu is expected to meet with representatives of GAUA on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as part of efforts to find a solution to the issues behind the strike.
Until the matter is resolved, some services at the University Hospital, Legon, may remain affected.
