Independent presidential candidate Kofi Koranteng has called on President John Dramani Mahama to resign, claiming the government has failed to meet the expectations of Ghanaians since returning to office.
Speaking during an interview, Mr. Koranteng expressed disappointment with what he described as the administration’s poor handling of key national issues.
He argued that despite the optimism surrounding President Mahama’s return to power, the government has not delivered the leadership and reforms many citizens anticipated.
According to Mr. Koranteng, the administration has struggled to address some of Ghana’s most pressing challenges, including corruption, illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and the country’s persistent unemployment problem.
He maintained that these issues continue to affect the lives of ordinary Ghanaians and require decisive leadership and effective policy implementation.
The independent presidential hopeful accused the government of underperforming in several sectors and failing to provide meaningful solutions to long-standing national concerns.
He argued that Ghanaians expected significant improvements under President Mahama’s leadership but have instead witnessed little progress in addressing the problems confronting the country.
Mr. Koranteng further stated that the President should accept responsibility for what he described as the government’s shortcomings.
In his view, stepping down from office would demonstrate accountability for the administration’s inability to fulfil the promises and expectations placed before it.
During the interview, he also spoke about broader issues of governance and accountability, stressing the need for stronger leadership, transparency and policies that directly improve the welfare of citizens.
He called for a renewed commitment to tackling corruption, creating jobs for the youth and ending illegal mining activities, which continue to threaten the country’s environment and water bodies.
