Two injured in head-on collision at Fianko

Two people sustained injuries after a fuel tanker and a Kia Frontier truck collided head-on at Fianko, near Family Village, in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded to the scene on Wednesday, July 22, after receiving a distress call at about 5:41 p.m.

The crash involved a DAF fuel tanker transporting an estimated 54,000 litres of fuel and a Kia Frontier light truck.

Upon arrival, firefighters searched both vehicles and confirmed that no occupants were trapped in the wreckage.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Kia Frontier allegedly lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the oncoming fuel tanker, leaving both vehicles extensively damaged.

The two injured men were rescued and attended to, although authorities have not yet released their identities or provided updates on their condition.

Given the large quantity of fuel on board the tanker, firefighters quickly secured the scene to prevent any fire outbreak or explosion before handing it over to the appropriate authorities for recovery and clearance.
