New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has described former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a man of exceptional character, saying he has never known him to be involved in any scandal throughout their nearly two decades of association.
In a birthday message marking Dr Bawumia’s 63rd birthday on Wednesday, October 7, Mr Otchere-Darko praised the former Vice-President for what he described as his loyalty, patriotism, humility and confidence in the abilities of Ghanaians.
He recalled meeting Dr Bawumia at his Kanda residence nearly 20 years ago, describing their long-standing relationship as one that had given him the opportunity to observe the former Vice-President’s character closely.
According to him, Dr Bawumia had consistently demonstrated a calm temperament and had never been known to insult others or become embroiled in scandal.
Mr Otchere-Darko also expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership potential, saying he possesses the temperament required to make difficult decisions and the vision to identify opportunities even in challenging circumstances.
He further argued that Ghana needs leaders who understand the changing global environment, particularly the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
He said effective leadership in the era of AI would be crucial to helping young Ghanaians transform uncertainty into ambition and create opportunities for economic prosperity.
Dr Bawumia is the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election. He served as Vice-President from 2017 to 2024 under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
