Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku, has called on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to emulate the values of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, saying his leadership was defined by tolerance, humility and a commitment to national unity.
Contributing to a parliamentary tribute in honour of the late President, Mr. Awuku said Prof. Mills respected differing opinions and never treated political opponents as adversaries.
“He tolerated divergent views and never saw his political opponents as enemies,” he said.
He further noted that the late President embraced criticism and remained committed to democratic governance throughout his time in office.
“He accepted criticisms in good faith and never imprisoned people he disagreed with,” he stated.
Mr. Awuku said the principles demonstrated by Prof. Mills should continue to serve as a model for today’s NDC officials and supporters.
“He is a man that modern-day NDC activists and officials must emulate,” he stressed.
He also expressed the hope that the late President’s legacy would continue to influence the conduct of the governing party.
“I pray that the legacy of Professor Mills can run through the veins of the NDC today and reflect in the governance of today’s NDC,” he added.
