Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged the majority in Parliament to refrain from obstructing their requests for an investigation into the losses incurred by GoldBod.
He noted that this would mark the second occasion the minority is requesting the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod to appear, expressing hope that the Majority in Parliament will facilitate his attendance before the esteemed house.
In a press conference addressing the losses sustained by GoldBod, the Minority Leader recalled how the majority previously utilised their numerical strength to thwart an earlier summons, emphasising that for the sake of accountability and good governance, the CEO of GoldBod must be compelled to appear before the August House to respond to inquiries.
“If GoldBod says they are ready for a debate, they should tell the new majority leader, Hon Agalga for him to have an understanding so that they will not use their 189 to block his summons. We are also calling on the Speaker not to use technicalities to push their motion aside.
“We the minority, will not relent on this. The GoldBod has thrown a challenge that it is ready to debate this issue. If indeed it is ready, then we propose to the majority: don’t stop us the second time. Don’t use your 189 to vote against an invitation to GoldBod for a probe into what accounted for the 22 billion losses,” he stated.
