The Toase District Court has quashed the case concerning a teacher and a student from Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, who were seen in a widely shared video involved in a physical confrontation on school grounds.
The incident, which incited public outrage after the video gained traction on social media, resulted in the arrest of the teacher, Eric Afful.
In the video, the teacher is depicted striking the female student multiple times before lifting her and throwing her to the ground.
When the case was presented to the court, it encouraged the teacher, the student, and their families to settle the issue amicably through reconciliation and an out-of-court agreement.
After the court proceedings, the Ashanti Regional GNAT Chairman, Professor Elvis Binney, urged civil society organisations and members of the teachers’ community to avoid making biased remarks or issuing threats against the teacher.
