A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested following the dissemination of a viral video that allegedly shows him assaulting a female student on the school premises.
The arrest was confirmed by Daniel Fenyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 8, 2026.
“The Nyinahin Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student has been arrested! The Regional Education Directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Mr Fenyi wrote.
The incident has sparked significant public concern after footage circulated on social media appeared to show the teacher physically confronting the student while bystanders implored him to cease his actions.
In the video, the teacher is observed repeatedly striking the student before allegedly lifting her and throwing her to the ground.
Witnesses can be heard urging him to remember that the student was a girl and to refrain from assaulting her. However, the teacher, who seemed visibly agitated, responded, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
The reason for the confrontation is yet to be known.
According to GES, the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has initiated investigations into the incident and is anticipated to submit a comprehensive report to the service’s headquarters.
The arrest occurs amid increasing demands for accountability and more robust measures to protect students within educational institutions.
The results of the investigations are expected to dictate any further disciplinary or legal actions against the teacher.
