The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a strong warning to the public against assaulting, obstructing or interfering with its officers while they are performing their official duties.
The warning follows an alleged attack on GRA officials at Jamila Home at Westlands in Accra on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during a Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance exercise.
The Authority has since invited a staff member of the facility to assist with investigations into the incident.
Speaking to the media after visiting the premises, Accra Central Area Enforcement Officer of the GRA, Joseph Annang, said the Authority would not tolerate attacks on its personnel.
He stressed that GRA officers operate under the authority of the Commissioner-General and warned that anyone who assaults or obstructs them could face legal consequences.
Mr Annang said the GRA remains committed to maintaining a cordial relationship with taxpayers and carrying out its duties in a customer-focused manner.
However, he noted that cooperation from the public is expected during compliance exercises, particularly when officers are acting within the law.
He urged members of the public to channel any concerns or disagreements through the appropriate procedures rather than resorting to confrontation.
The GRA officer reiterated that the Authority would take all necessary legal measures to protect its personnel and ensure that individuals who attack or interfere with them are dealt with in accordance with the law.
