The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has led a delegation on a courtesy visit to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between Parliament and traditional leadership in Ghana.
It also formed part of efforts to promote cooperation in the areas of chieftaincy, cultural preservation, and national unity.
The Chairman explained that traditional leaders continue to play an important role in maintaining peace and supporting development in their communities.
He stressed that Parliament values their contribution and remains committed to working closely with them.
During the meeting, the committee expressed its appreciation to the Asantehene for his continued leadership and influence in promoting peace and cultural identity across the country.
They also highlighted the need to protect Ghana’s rich traditions and pass them on to younger generations.
Manhyia Palace Museum was also visited by the committee. There, the delegation took time to observe historical artefacts and learn more about the Asante Kingdom’s heritage.
The visit provided an opportunity for members of the committee to deepen their understanding of the cultural history that continues to shape modern Ghana.
The Chairman noted that such engagements are important because they help bridge the gap between modern governance structures and traditional authority.
He added that development in Ghana can be more effective when both systems work together in harmony.
The visit ended on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to promoting unity, cultural preservation, and national development.
The committee also expressed its intention to continue similar engagements with other traditional councils across the country.
