It noted that Ghana’s political stability and growing regional influence make it an important partner for Australia. Both countries continue to expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, mining, and climate-resilient agriculture.

The statement also highlighted ongoing collaboration between Australia and African countries in efforts to promote peace, stability, and security across West Africa.

Ms Shaw serves as a career diplomat with Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). She has previously worked in Indonesia and Zimbabwe and also served as Acting High Commissioner to Mauritius.

Australia said her appointment reflects its intention to deepen engagement with Ghana and the wider region through experienced diplomatic leadership.

The Australian government also thanked outgoing High Commissioner Berenice Owen-Jones for her service since 2022. It acknowledged her role in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing Australia’s interests in Ghana during her tenure.
