The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery attack on the bus of Berekum Chelsea FC, which resulted in the tragic death of player Dominic Frimpong.

According to a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit on April 16, 2026, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation involving multiple police units, including the Intelligence Directorate, the Anti-Robbery Unit, and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The incident which occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin district led to the fatal shooting of Dominic Frimpong, sending shockwaves through Ghana’s football community.

Authorities revealed that on April 15, 2026, a special police team tracked and arrested the prime suspect, Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” believed to be the leader of the gang.

Another suspect, Bawa Gideon, was also apprehended during the operation at Atimatim, Kumasi. The suspects reportedly attempted to flee and opened fire on police officers before being subdued.

Items retrieved from the suspects include a pistol with two rounds of 32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, pepper spray, desert boots, multiple mobile phones, and a black pullover believed to have been used during the attacks.

During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed allegedly confessed to participating in several robberies, including the attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus, as well as incidents in Nkawie and Fufuo.

He also named three accomplices, identified as Dauda, Huefe, and A.T., who are currently on the run and have been declared wanted by the police.

Police disclosed that Mohammed Ahmed is currently receiving treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations.

The Police Command has commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and praised members of the public for their cooperation, which contributed to the arrest.
