The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a temporary load management exercise in parts of the Volta and Oti regions following a technical fault on a transformer at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) Asiekpe Bulk Supply Point (BSP).
ECG said the exercise is intended to stabilise the national transmission system while engineers work to resolve the fault.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer for ECG’s Volta and Oti Regions, Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua.
According to the statement, the first phase of the load management exercise will take place from 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, to 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3.
Areas expected to be affected include Ho Technical University, SSNIT Flats, Goshen City, GNTC, Police Headquarters, Serene Hotel, the Ghana Water Limited office, Sokode Lokoe, parts of Green Valley, Sokode Gbogame, Abutia, Akrofu, parts of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Main Campus, Kpando Township, Sovie, Vakpo, Anfoega and Hohoe.
Other affected communities are Dave, Tritrinu, Ho Airport, Wumenu, Kpetoe, Jasikan, Bodada, Akpafu, Bowiri, Ayeremu, Adumadum, Atigor and surrounding communities.
The second phase of the exercise is scheduled to run from 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, to 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4.
ECG said communities expected to experience outages during the second phase include Kpenoe, Takla, Hodzo, the Food and Distribution area, Ho Central Market, Akoefe, Tokokoe, Tanyigbe, Anglokodzi, Alavanyo, Nkonya, Agbenorxoe, Torkor, parts of Kpando, Kudje, Tapa Amanya and Worawora.
The company added that Akaa, Kwamekrom, Hovie, Klefe, Ziavi, parts of the UHAS Main Campus, Microwave, Taviefe, Matse, Akoviefe, Dzologborgame, Shia, Klave, Lume, Nyive, parts of Hohoe, Kadjebi, Asato, Mount Sinai, parts of Jasikan, Kabiti and Nkwanta will also be affected.
ECG assured customers that its engineers, in collaboration with GRIDCo, are working to fix the technical challenge and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary outages and appealed to affected customers for patience and understanding while repair works continue.
