Bawumia intervenes in NPP election dispute in Oda, Swedru

The 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, has stepped in to help resolve tensions surrounding the party’s polling station executive elections in the Akyem Swedru and Akyem Oda constituencies in the Eastern Region.

The intervention follows weeks of disagreements that disrupted the electoral process in the two constituencies. In Akyem Oda, the elections were suspended following disturbances linked to the process, while in Akyem Swedru, aggrieved party members secured a court injunction that stalled the exercise.

Speaking on behalf of the party leadership after a closed-door meeting involving key stakeholders, senior NPP member Nana Akomea said Dr. Bawumia had engaged all factions involved in the dispute and reaffirmed the need for unity as the party prepares for the 2028 general election.

According to him, the discussions resulted in a breakthrough, with the feuding groups agreeing to put their differences aside and work towards reconciliation.

“Dr. Bawumia is committed to ensuring unity within the party, and the meeting has yielded positive results,” Nana Akomea indicated after the engagement.

He noted that the parties involved had agreed to smoke the peace pipe and pursue an amicable resolution of their grievances.

He further disclosed that the NPP General Secretary, Justin Koduah Frimpong, is expected to visit both constituencies in the coming days to consolidate the reconciliation process and oversee the implementation of agreements reached during the meeting.
