The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports claiming that Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), describing the reports as false and stressing that there has been no disagreement between the Minister and the institution.
In a clarification issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Ministry stated categorically that “Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has not resigned from GoldBod, nor has there been any disagreement between him and the Ghana Gold Board”.
The Ministry explained that Mr Armah-Kofi Buah initially served on the GoldBod Board in his personal capacity but later nominated the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, to represent him from January 2026.
According to the Ministry, the decision was “purely administrative” and followed the Minister’s demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities across two Ministries.
It said the arrangement became necessary because the Minister was “handling responsibilities across two Ministries”, which made it increasingly difficult for him to personally attend all GoldBod Board meetings and engagements.
He therefore “exercised the appropriate institutional arrangement” by designating the Ministry’s Chief Director, a senior official, to act on his behalf.
The Ministry noted that the arrangement is consistent with GoldBod’s governance framework, which allows designated representatives to serve on the Board on behalf of members where applicable.
It further said GoldBod’s recent clarification confirmed that the Minister initially served on the Board personally before nominating the Chief Director because of his demanding schedule and difficulty attending meetings regularly.
The Ministry has consequently urged the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard reports suggesting that the Minister resigned from GoldBod or that his decision to appoint a representative was linked to “any disagreement, conflict or dissatisfaction with the institution”.
