Renewed gunfire in the Nkwanta South Municipality has forced residents to flee their homes, with a 26-year-old commercial motor rider left in critical condition.

The victim, identified as Bright Nkpah, was reportedly travelling from Nkwanta towards Odomi-Challa when he was caught in a barrage of gunfire by unknown assailants along a secluded stretch of the road.

The attackers opened fire on travellers using the route, causing panic as several people scrambled for safety. While others managed to escape unharmed, Nkpah sustained a gunshot wound and is currently battling for his life.

He was rushed to a hospital in Nkwanta, where medical personnel are working to stabilise his condition.

Security sources indicate that the attack bears similarities to previous incidents linked to ongoing ethnic-related conflicts in the area, although the identities of the gunmen remain unknown.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the shooting, while security agencies are expected to intensify patrols and surveillance along major routes to prevent further attacks.
