Ghanaian musician Kelvyn Boy has stirred public discussion after sharing his disappointment with the church, saying it no longer connects with him like it once did.
He explained that his feelings are not the result of any conflict with God. Instead, he said his views have changed because of what he has observed in today’s church environment.
He noted that both church leaders and members have shaped his current opinion. He pointed to behaviours and practices he believes do not match the values the church promotes.
According to him, while some pastors genuinely support people and do meaningful work, others fall short in their actions and leadership.
Kelvyn Boy also spoke about how some church members treat others. He criticised attitudes he described as judgmental, especially when people judge others based on appearance or social standing.
“I feel like pastors should share what they get and support people, but I don’t see that like that. And then the churchgoers, what they would do right after church or before church.
“The way they move, the way they react to things, the way they receive people, and the way they do services. They even judge you with your appearance,” he said.
He said these experiences have shaped how he now sees the church. In his view, the overall structure and way services are run have lost their true meaning.
Despite his concerns, the former Seventh-day Adventist member said he remains open to change. He added that he could return if he sees improvements in how Christianity is practised and organised.
