Education Ministry to meet GAUA, GTEC over ongoing strike

The Ministry of Education will convene an emergency meeting with officials of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Monday, October 12, 2026, as efforts intensify to end an ongoing strike and restore operations at affected tertiary institutions.

The engagement is intended to bring the parties together to explore possible solutions and reach an agreement that addresses the dispute.

In a statement signed by its Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry urged all parties involved to approach the discussions in good faith, mindful of the impact of the strike on students, university communities and the country as a whole.

The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving labour disputes through recognised negotiation processes and continuous dialogue.

It expressed hope that the meeting would produce a favourable outcome, allowing academic and administrative activities to return to normal at the institutions affected by the strike.

However, the statement offered no details about the specific concerns behind the industrial action or the proposals likely to be considered during the discussions.
