Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has removed two special audit reports from its current proceedings following their withdrawal by the Auditor-General.
The reports concern Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, DC, covering the period from 2017 to 2025, and the 13th All African Games.
The Committee announced the decision on October 6, 2026, as it began its examination of financial irregularities contained in the Auditor-General’s 2025 reports.
PAC Chairperson Abena Osei-Asare explained that the Washington Embassy report would not be considered during the current sittings because the Auditor-General had formally written to Parliament to withdraw it.
A similar decision was taken regarding the special audit report on the 13th All African Games after discussions between the Committee and the Auditor-General.
Ms Osei-Asare stressed that the withdrawal does not mean the issues raised in the reports have been permanently abandoned. She said the Committee would revisit both reports once they are formally brought back before it.
The decision comes as the PAC intensifies its scrutiny of financial irregularities recorded in the 2025 audit reports.
The Committee is currently examining the Ministries, Departments and Agencies Audit Report, which has identified financial irregularities amounting to GH¢5.2 billion.
Of this amount, GH¢4.8 billion is linked to tax infractions, which the Committee considers particularly concerning.
The PAC says it will demand answers from relevant tax authorities on the nature of the breaches and the measures taken to address them.
The Committee is also shifting its focus towards whether institutions have implemented previous audit recommendations, particularly where similar infractions continue to recur.
