Abanga Fuseini Yakubu has been elected National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emerging as the winner of a six-candidate contest at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
He secured 1,550 votes, defeating Alfred Kumi Ababio, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, Michael Osei Boateng, Clement Opoku Gyamfi and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah.
The election was held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, 2026, as the NPP elected new national executives to lead the party through its next phase of organisation.
The Electoral Commission supervised the exercise, with voting conducted across 31 centres at the stadium.
Abanga’s victory comes after a campaign focused on strengthening the party’s youth wing and increasing youth mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general election.
One of his major campaign targets was to mobilise four million youth votes for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 election.
He now takes over the leadership of the party’s youth wing from Salam Mustapha and will be responsible for coordinating and mobilising young party members and supporters across the country.
Abanga will also work with the newly elected national executives and other party structures to strengthen the youth wing as the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections.
The National Youth Organiser position was among nine national executive positions contested at the conference, which brought together more than 7,000 delegates from across the country.
