19-year-old arrested over armed robbery at Asabi

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 19-year-old suspect linked to an armed robbery that took place in Asabi, within the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

As reported by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the incident transpired at approximately 12:20 am on July 21, 2026.

While conducting routine patrols, the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received information regarding a male adult who had been robbed of his mobile phone and was found unconscious near the Presbyterian Church in Asabi.

A press release issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, indicated that the patrol team promptly proceeded to the location.

Upon noticing the police presence, the suspect attempted to flee and sought refuge in an unfinished building. He was subsequently pursued and apprehended.

The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Mustapha, aged 19.

A search conducted on him resulted in the recovery of the complainant’s mobile phone and a machete, both of which have been retained as evidence.

The victim suffered machete wounds to the forehead, neck, and left hand.

He was swiftly transported to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted and is currently undergoing treatment.

At approximately 5:30 am on the same day, the victim was visited at the hospital. He had regained consciousness, was in stable condition, and continues to receive medical care under observation.

The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
