Three people, including a woman, have been arrested after drones were allegedly flown over the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The incident occurred as heightened security was reported at the EOCO headquarters, where Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, appeared before investigators in connection with an ongoing probe.
According to reports, the drones were flown over the EOCO premises for several minutes before officials moved to apprehend the suspects. The three were subsequently arrested for allegedly operating the drones without authorisation.
The arrests came a day after an Accra High Court issued a warrant authorising EOCO to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah and search for and seize documents considered relevant to its investigation.
The warrant followed an earlier attempt by EOCO officers to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court on September 23. EOCO told the court that it had made several efforts to secure his voluntary attendance for questioning.
Baffour Awuah, however, appeared at the EOCO office voluntarily on Thursday, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, and other Members of Parliament.
The investigation centres on alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
EOCO has cited suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and possible money laundering among the matters under investigation.
The MP has disputed EOCO’s account that he failed to cooperate, saying invitations sent in February were addressed to his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
He has said representatives of the firm subsequently appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and provided information requested by investigators, including a written statement.
The allegations remain under investigation, and no finding of wrongdoing has been made against the MP.
