The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Japanese multinational Meiji Holdings have taken steps towards a potential long-term partnership aimed at supporting football development in Ghana.
The two organisations formalised their engagement with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during Meiji’s 100th anniversary celebrations at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra on Monday, September 14, 2026.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku signed on behalf of the Football Association, while Meiji Holdings CEO Katsunari Matsuda signed for the Japanese company.
The proposed partnership will cover several areas, including sports nutrition, player performance, youth football, women’s football, health education and coaching development.
Meiji has also expressed interest in understanding some of the challenges facing the GFA and identifying areas where it can provide sustainable support.
The company’s initial support includes SAVAS sports nutrition supplements and protein products, with further cooperation expected to develop in 2027.
President Simeon-Okraku said the GFA would work to ensure that the relationship creates value for both organisations.
“We will leverage on this relationship and explore ways of ensuring the partnership is mutually beneficial,” he said.
GFA Vice-President Mark Addo also welcomed the planned technical cooperation, particularly the involvement of Meiji experts in training GFA officials on sports nutrition.
The engagement was facilitated with support from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Ghana, which has been involved in discussions between the two sides.
The GFA says the relationship could create opportunities for knowledge transfer, technical cooperation and commercial engagement.
