Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have secured a place in the semi-finals of the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens 2-1 in a closely contested quarter-final encounter.
The Ghanaian side showed determination and composure to overcome their Nigerian opponents and keep their hopes of reaching the CAF Women’s Champions League alive.
Rebecca Assemani opened the scoring for Ampem Darkoa, giving the Ghanaian champions an important advantage in the game. The forward’s goal provided a strong platform for the team as Edo Queens looked for a way back into the contest.
Ampem Darkoa continued to push forward and were rewarded with a second goal through Milot Pokuaa. The strike put the Ghanaian side in a comfortable position and increased the pressure on Edo Queens.
The Nigerian club, however, refused to give up and managed to pull a goal back as the match entered its crucial stages.
Ampem Darkoa were forced to defend their lead under pressure, but the Ghanaian champions remained organised and held on until the final whistle to secure a 2-1 victory.
The win is another important step for Ampem Darkoa in their bid to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League, Africa’s premier club competition for women.
The Ghanaian champions have now moved into the last four of the WAFU B qualifiers, where they will face another difficult test in their quest to secure a place at the continental tournament.
